One year ago tomorrow, I wrote a Facebook post announcing my blog. It’s my one year anniversary! I said I would write new posts each week and put them up on Fridays. And I did. At the beginning, four posts were already up, for Jeremy to work with as he got the website ready. So, if you visited the website that very first Friday, it had more than one lonely post that you could read.
I’ve made a database, to track the posts and what Bible verses I reference and which fruit of the Spirit I use. The program will only hold 54 entries, so it’s full and won’t let me add any more. I had to start a new one, for Year Two (plus the last two posts from the first year).
Ma-a-a-a-ny years ago, and maybe by accident, I bought some milk that had, as a “use by” date, some family member’s birthday stamped on it. I don’t remember whose. Maybe I pointed it out, or maybe another family member noticed, but anyway, we laughed and made a big deal about the “birthday milk.” So, every birthday after that, in the time before the specific day, I would make a conscious effort to look for Birthday Milk, for whomever’s birthday it was.
When Kevin and April had been married a few months, they were at our house, in early February. At breakfast, April removed the milk from the fridge. “Oh, Kevin told me about Birthday Milk,” she said, noticing his birth date on the carton. “When we went shopping, we looked for Birthday Milk, but we’d waited too long. We couldn’t find any.”
“Oh, too bad,” I said.
“Well,” she said. “We found Birthday Meat, and got that, instead.
A while ago, shopping for our family’s July 4th celebrating, I did manage to find some Happy Birthday, America, milk. Of course, there were just a few tablespoons left by time the holiday actually arrived.
I was going back through my phone, deleting old photos (because I keep wanting to take more photos and videos and I need more space!) and I came across photos from last July and realized I had omitted the holiday dessert from 2013. Jeremy likes red velvet cake, and I had made red velvet cupcakes and frosted them red, white, and blue and make a flag-ish arrangement of them for our Independence Day dessert.
And only my sister asked about this year’s cake! I wanted to make something less fatty and less sugary (which is not exactly healthy, but moving a little more that way). So I made a big flag sugar cookie, with a non-sugary glaze for the red stripes, and white flakey-ish sprinkles for stripes and blue sprinkles for the corner and some intriguing white balls for the stars. They rolled around a little bit, but they melted down quite nicely in the oven and made really good stars.
Now, I look forward to the coming months. I plan to write posts every week and put them up on Friday mornings. I’ve done it for a year. I think I can do it again.
I will sing to the Lord as long as I live;
I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.
May my meditation be sweet to Him;
I will be glad in the Lord.
Psalm 104:33-34 (NKJV)
Collin has a stand up desk, and birthday time is fun to do too. You can play twice a day!

You have done a wonderful job with your blog. I look forward to reading It each Fri. Since I am awake some nights, I get to read it early In the morning. I think it cheers me up many an early morning. Thanks for such a great gift you have given me.
I get up on Friday mornings, and first thing, look at the stats on the MadMimi, which is the e-mail program that I use to send out the blog post reminders (and which I think Kevin chose because it *is* MadMimi). I want to be sure it went, that the post is up, and things are going properly. Many Friday mornings, even at 6:00 am, 4 people have already read the post. Kevin and Jeremy have, as I expect (they are administrators of the site and are partly making sure things have gone right); Jeremy lives in Eastern Time Zone. And JoAnne and Phyllis!! In the Pacific Time Zone, where it’s 4:00 AM!!! Thank you both for letting me be part of your early, early mornings. Or, maybe your late, late nights.
Congrats, Gayle. Keep it up….love the posts about the Lintz traditions…and always any pics of Peter !!
Thanks. I love putting up the photos of Peter. It’s hard not to put up dozens at a time! I know you understand how that feels. Doesn’t *everyone* want to see them as much as I (and you) do? I certainly want to see yours!
You have done a stellar job Gayle. No surprise there…you always do! Enjoy your blog, and the memories in conjures up. Reading it takes me to a happy place and pictures of Peter are always loved. I DO want to see his adorable self as much as possible so put those pictures up.
Love to all,Suzy
Happy Anniversary! I love reading your posts! Deedie
